BUSINESS ENQUIRIES

Start with the financial task
your business needs to address.

When writing, introduce your company, describe the budget, cash flow, reporting or operating question, and outline the time frame. This provides a useful starting point for considering the services and information required.

A short introduction is sufficient for the first message. Detailed records can follow through arrangements agreed for the assignment.

How the service process works

Two ways to organise the work.

Project-based advisory

An assignment addresses a particular requirement, such as preparing a financial budget, examining cash flow timing, assessing a cost structure or developing a management reporting pack. The project plan identifies the required records, analysis, deliverables and delivery period.

Continuing management support

A recurring arrangement supports agreed financial management tasks over a service period. It may include forecast updates, actual-to-budget analysis or periodic reporting reviews. The frequency and work products reflect the information available and the management cycle.

The assignment brief.

Business requirement
The financial issue, why it matters and the decision or review the work will support.
Available information
The records, reporting periods and assumptions already available, together with material gaps.
Expected work products
The forecast, budget, analytical report or operating recommendations to be prepared.
Timing and ownership
The planning deadline, responsible information owners and people who will review the findings.

The commercial arrangement.

A written service agreement establishes the work, deliverables, fees, timing and responsibilities. Fees reflect the project’s requirements, complexity and service period. Changes to the assignment and additional services are addressed through the agreed commercial terms.

The agreement also addresses confidentiality, data handling, permitted use of deliverables and any requirements relevant to the proposed service. Detailed information is shared through arrangements established for the assignment.

The management review.

The completed work is discussed against the original requirement. Financial findings are considered alongside the business’s operating knowledge, and unresolved questions are identified for follow-up.

Where continuing support is included, the review cycle sets when actual results replace estimates, which assumptions need updating and how further work will be prioritised.
